Electrician marketing: how to win panel upgrades, EV chargers and emergency calls

· 6 min read · By the Fullweek team

Short answer

Good electrician marketing separates two kinds of work. Emergency and safety calls come from Google: Local Services Ads, your Business Profile, reviews and a phone that always gets answered. High-ticket projects like panel upgrades, EV chargers, generators and rewires need their own pages, clear offers and follow-up. Builders and property managers add steady repeat work. Measure it all by cost per booked job.

Key takeaways

  • Give every high-ticket service (panel upgrades, EV chargers, generators, rewires) its own page and offer. One generic "electrical services" page wins none of them.
  • Electrical leads on Local Services Ads ran about $39 per lead in one early 2026 sample, lower than plumbing or HVAC.
  • U.S. fire departments responded to about 24,000 residential electrical fires a year (2014 to 2016, USFA). Safety calls are urgent and need a fast answer.
  • Show your license number on your site, trucks and Google profile. Requirements vary by state, so check your state licensing board.
  • Builders, GCs and property managers bring repeat work that ads can't. Track it by referrer.

Electrician marketing starts with two kinds of work

A homeowner with a burning smell at the panel and a homeowner thinking about an EV charger are not the same customer. The first needs someone today and will call the first licensed electrician who answers. The second will compare three quotes over two weeks and read your reviews.

Most electrical shops market to both with one homepage and one ad. That's why the phone rings with small service calls while the big projects go to someone else. Split your marketing in two:

Build a page and an offer for every high-ticket service

Each big-ticket service needs its own page on your site, its own ad group, and an offer that gets the homeowner to call now instead of later.

Panel upgrades

Explain the signs (old fuse box, frequent trips, adding a big appliance), what an upgrade involves, and that permits and inspections are part of the job. Offer a free or low-cost panel assessment. Show photos of finished panels, labeled and clean.

EV chargers

Homeowners want to know if their panel can handle it and roughly what it costs. Give a price range and a "send us a photo of your panel" quote option. Note that the federal 30C home charger credit only covered equipment installed through June 30, 2026, so don't lead with tax credits. Check for utility or state rebates in your area instead.

Generators

Generator interest spikes after storms and outages. Have the page and ads ready before storm season, not after. Offer a free site visit and financing if you have it.

Rewires and older homes

Target older neighborhoods. Write about knob-and-tube and aluminum wiring in plain terms, and partner with home inspectors who flag these issues on sales.

Win safety and emergency calls

Electrical problems scare people, with reason. The U.S. Fire Administration estimates about 24,000 residential building electrical fires a year in 2014 to 2016, causing about 310 deaths and $871 million in property loss, with January the peak month. When someone smells burning or sees sparks, they call whoever answers first.

  • Have an emergency page that tells people what to do right now (turn off the breaker if it's safe, call 911 for fire or smoke) and how fast you can be there.
  • Answer every call, day and night. A missed emergency call is a job lost in under a minute. An answering service for electricians can triage true emergencies and book the rest.
  • Set honest hours on Google and LSAs. If you don't answer at night, don't list 24/7.
  • Charge for emergencies clearly. State your after-hours fee on the phone so there are no surprises.

Local Services Ads and your Google profile

Electricians have their own Local Services Ads category, and you choose which job types you want leads for. In one February 2026 sample of 888 contractors, electrical leads cost about $39 each, lower than plumbing (about $57) or HVAC (about $51).

  1. Turn on the job types you want, and turn off the small stuff you don't if your board is full.
  2. Keep your service area to where you can respond quickly.
  3. Make sure your license and insurance documents are current for the Google Verified badge.
  4. Dispute spam, wrong numbers and out-of-area leads every week.
  5. Track which LSA leads become booked jobs in your field-service software.

On your Google Business Profile, list every service separately (panel upgrades, EV charger installation, generator installation, lighting, troubleshooting), add your service area, and post photos of real jobs weekly.

Reviews and licensing build trust

Homeowners are letting you work on something that can burn their house down. Trust is the whole sale. Two things help most.

Reviews. Ask every customer the same day, by text, with a direct link. Ask specifically about the job ("If you're happy with the new panel, a quick review mentioning it helps us a lot"). Reviews that name the service help on the high-ticket pages. Our guide on how to get more Google reviews walks through the process.

License display. Put your license number on your website footer, every service page, your trucks and your estimates. Licensing rules and display requirements vary by state and sometimes by city, so check with your state electrical licensing board. This is not legal advice.

Builder, GC and property manager relationships

Ads bring one job at a time. Relationships bring dozens. Three groups are worth a few hours a month:

  • Builders and general contractors need electricians who show up on schedule and pass inspection the first time. Ask for a small job to prove it.
  • Property managers need fast response, clear invoices and photos. They send repeat service work and tenant emergencies.
  • Home inspectors and realtors flag electrical issues on sales and need them fixed before closing.

Tag every job by referrer so you know which relationships are worth more of your time.
